Abstract

On 11 October 2024, asteroid (17) Thetis occulted the previously unknown double star TYC 5260-00005-1 (Gaia DR3 source id: 2441566900641341696). Subsequent data analysis confirms that TYC 5260-00005-1 is an undiscovered double star and a binary star system. Both components of the double star were occulted and recorded by ten observers at six different sites located in Canada. The primary and secondary components are calculated to have magnitudes of 11.82 ± 0.09 and 12.12 ± 0.07, respectively, with a separation of 13.2 ± 1.6 milliarcseconds and a position angle of 214.0 ± 8.0 degrees.
